In Mexico City, Wehrlein managed to get pole position in only his thirf Formula E race ahead of Audi driver Lucas di Grassi, while his veteran Formula 1 peer, Felipe Massa managed a fantastic P3.
In only his third Formula E race, Wehrlein managed to keep his good form shown in getting second place two weeks ago in Chile. The former Formula 1 driver showing tremendous promise in this new environment.
After finishing second in the first group heats behind Nissan driver, Oliver Rowland, former Formula 1 driver, Wehrlein achieved a best lap of 59.347s which was enough for P1, finishing three-tenths ahead of the rest of the pack.
Di Grassi managed second for Audi, while Felipe Massa enjoyed his best Formula E qualifying session yet, the Brazilian finished P3 ahead of Rowland in P4.
Antonio Felix da Costa for BMW and Sebastien Buemi for Nissan completed the top six.
Championship leader Sam Bird saw his hopes for a second win in a row shunted when his car had an issue while heading out for qualifying, leaving him at the back of the field.
Bird’s closest championship rival, d’Ambrosio, could only manage 19th, meanwhile reigning FE champion Jean-Eric Vergne will start from P8 in Mexico.
