The gravel stages started, and for us Arad was like our home rally. We were very confident due to the 40 points we accumulated unexpectedly in the two previous rallies. Between Round II and Round III, we began to believe that we had a serious chance of a podium at the end of the year.
We knew very well that our chances of scoring on gravel were higher than on asphalt and the asphalt stages had brought us 40 points in the first two rounds, a thing I could have never dreamed of. At the Arad Rally knowing the evidence very well and having no pressure, the only strategy I had was to finish the rally. However, even at the home rally we should not take the Special Stages to lightly. However, on SSI the euphoria and the high rhythm we had had caused us to exit into the decor which fortunately proved to be without consequences in the ranking after that incident.
We managed to go through SSII and SSIII with a conservative pace so we could show off at the Special Stages held in the citycenter. we knew there would be a lot of spectators and many supporters who made the trip to Arad from our city Timisoara. I recall the first comment we received at the end of the day, “Our Dacia Logan, which seemed so harmless at first,” managed to make some of the victims among Subaru’s, Mitubishis’ and even an R5. Exiting from there under applause meant for us that the positive promotion part was achieved, we only had to finish the rally with the best possible result the next day.
It was all perfect until at the penultimate SS our fuel pump decided to stop working, which forced us to abandon the event due to technical failure. Unfortunately what could have been a great event turned out to be a DNF, leaving us to return home with only one goal: to prepare for the Rally of Moldova!
