Alexander Albon set the fastest time we have seen so far at Barcelona to go P1 for Toro Rosso in the first half of the fourth day of pre-season testing.
Following in his teammate’s footsteps, Albon uphed the Faenza based team’s honour by leading the session today. Although unexpected, Kvyat was the fastest yesterday and on the C5 tyres yet again, Alex Albon came out punching today with a time of 1m17.637.
Albon lead the session by 0.5s ahead of Renault Driver, Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian finished the day P2 with a time of 1m17.785s.
Although Mercedes did not manage to set a time under 1m19s across the first few days of testing, the German team finally turned it up and Lewis Hamilton, with a nice new pair of C4 rubber boots set a time of 1m17.977s which was enough for P3 on the day.
The brit was just a bit faster than Charles Leclerc, who set his time on the same rubber compound, the C4. Today also offered us a glimpse of the future Mercedes/Ferrari fight which is probably going to heat up significantly throughout this season. Leclerc also had a bit of a off-track mishap today, ending up in the gravel because of a spin – however, he was able to drive out by himself.
Leclerc completed the highest number of laps, followed by Haas’s Romain Grosjean and Lewis Hamilton for Mercedes.
