McLaren has today confirmed that Andreas Seidl, recently appointed as Managing Director, McLaren F1, will begin work on May 1st 2019.
“We’re delighted that Andreas is able to join the team on 1 May,” said Zak Brawn. “This enables us to continue the momentum of our recovery plan and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to McLaren.”
Though this means the German’s first race as Managing Director will be the opener to the European season in Spain, he is almost certain to attend a race or two before then, albeit as a ‘guest’ of the Woking team.
Seidl’s appointment at Woking marks a return to F1 for the German, who worked at BMW Motorsport from 2000 to 2006, then at BMW Sauber as head of track operations until 2009. He subsequently led BMW’s return to DTM before switching to Porsche in 2014 where he took charge of the German manufacturer’s LMP1 programme.
In his time in charge of the Porsche WEC programme he steered the German manufacturer to three titles and Le Mans victories.
