Charles Leclerc may be at risk of a last-minute pre-race penalty at the Abu Dhabi GP after a fuel irregularity was found in his Ferrari.
A statement from FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer read: „The fuel declaration of car number 16 was checked before the car left the pit-lane. „There was a significant difference between the declaration of the team and the amount of fuel inside the car. As this is not in compliance with Technical Directive 12-19 I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration.”
The matter could see Leclerc’s starting position of third altered, but could also have a more wide-reaching impact. If Ferrari is found to have breached one of the FIA’s recently reinforced Technical Directives, it could signify that suspicions about their pace gains over the 2019 season have had more base than thought so far.
