According to KTM there is currently no question of a switch from Jeffrey Herlings to the AMA-championship in America.
The 24-year-old Jeffrey Herlings stimulated speculations about his future by sharing the number 108 in a post on his Instagram. It would indicate a possible transfer from the driver to America, where the new AMA championship would start in 108 days from the time he posted it.
An inquiry with Herlings’ employer Red Bull KTM Factory Racing learns that the Austrian brand rejects the potential switch as speculation and refuses to go further into the issue. Herlings does have a history in the AMA championship. In 2017 he came to the start of the season finale of the AMA Nationals and he beat the local top during the so-called ‘Iron Man’ competition. He would later label this competition as his favorite moment of 2017.
The reigning MXGP world champion broke his foot last month during a training in Spain and was operated. With that, the driver seems to be able to strike (part of) his preseason anyway, but his participation in the first MXGP races of the new season may also be endangered by the foot injury. On March 2nd the first race in the World Championship will be on the program in Argentina, but for now it is highly uncertain whether Herlings will be healed in time to appear at the start.
