Conor Daly will replace Marcus Ericsson in the SPM Arrow No. 7 Honda car this weekend for the Portland round of the 2019 Indy car Championship, and the Swede will return to the Grand Prix Circus for the round at Spa-Francorchamps alongside the Alfa Romeo Racing Team.
Ericsson is under contract as a reserve driver of the Italian team, for which he raced between 2015 and 2018. This year, he was replaced by young Italian talent Antonio Giovinazzi, who so far this year, only collected 1 point, compared to Kimi Raikkonen, his teammate who brought in 31 points. The Alfa Romeo team has denied that the Swede will compete in this Grand Prix, but rumors are that he has been called upon to be ready to replace Kimi in case it would prove needed.
In his first season in Indycar, Marcus Ericsson managed to get a podium finish in the Detroit race (second place), and, apart from this race, the best position in which he finished was seventh (Texas and Barber). At this moment, the Swede is 17th in the overall ranking of the American open-wheel competition.
