Former F1 pilot, Paul di Resta and Philip Hanson were crowned 2018/19 Asian Le Mans champions following a fourth consecutive podium finish of the season in Sepang.
The #22 United Autosports Ligier squad finished second in the first two races of the season in Shanghai and Fuji, later winning for the first time in Buriram in January.
The three consecutive podium streak saw the two entering the Malaysia weekend with a 18 point lead ahead of #24 Algarve Pro Ligier team consisting of Harrison Newey, Andrea Pizzitola and Ate de Jong.
Di Resta and Hanson qualified second and soon found themselves in the lead when the pole-sitting team, #8 Spirit of Race Ligier were sanctioned with a drive-through penalty for jumping the start.
The #24 Algarve Pro trio however, managed to get into the lead of the race during the first safety car period, nonetheless, a second place finish was enough for the UAL squad to take the championship.
This moment marked di Resta’s third title and the first in any category since winning the DTM championship in 2010 with Mercedes.
Meanwhile, Jakub Smiechowski and Martin Hippe took the LMP3 crown with a victory in Sepang in their #13 Inter Europol Ligier.
In the GT Class, #11 CarGuy Racing Ferrari, driven by James Calado, Kei Cozzolino and Takeshi Kimura won the title in a dominant fashion, winning all four races in their category.
All three teams automatically qualified for this years 24H of Le Mans race thanks to their successes here. Meanwhile, Inter Europol will have to choose between their LMP2 and GTE Am squads.
The fourth and final slot reserved for the Asian Le Mans series goes to ARC Bratislava for their victory in the Am subdivision of the LMP2 class, victory achieved by Darren Burke, Miro Kinopoka and Kang Ling.
