Red Bull team principal Christian Horner emphasizes that the timing monitor may as well be switched off during the first test day. “We focus on our own program, and that makes us very satisfied.”
Horner certainly has not failed to notice that Sebastian Vettel is on the move at lightning speed. “Ferrari is strong for the day”, he acknowledges. “But our focus is on making miles. We try to create harmony between the engine and the chassis. Huge amounts of data are sent to the factory and they help us to identify our strengths and weaknesses. Based on this, we can define our development path. ”
“Our goal for this season is to close the gap to Mercedes and Ferrari,” continues Horner. “We are hopeful that we have made the necessary changes to finish a constant season. The switch to Honda has already brought us a lot of positive things. We are impressed by their approach and progress. But we obviously do not know what the others did during the winter months. ”
The fact that the competition has chosen other solutions in some areas, in particular for the front wing, does not worry Horner. “We have not seen anything that we think: why didn’t we come up with that,” he says. “It is interesting to see that there are differences, but it is not easy to copy because it affects the entire car. We are satisfied with the choices we have made. The findings on the track correspond with our calculations, the car is reliable and our drivers are happy. ”
