Valtteri Bottas has managed to lead the Mercedes team once again in his second free practice session in Barcelona, finishing fractionally faster than his colleague Lewis Hamilton.
We had a second session that, in contrast to the first, took place without major incidents during the 90 minutes of running.
Bottas finished FP2 with the fastest time of 1m17,284, a marginal 0,049 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton who returned to form after a first difficult session for him in Barcelona.
The two Mercedes drivers finished at just over three-tenths in front of the two Ferrari rival drivers, Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel, ranking three and four respectively at the end of the session.
The fifth place, almost constantly belonged to Max Verstappen this year and this session was no different. Red Bull’s driver ended seven tenths behind the leader, but overall it was a good session for the Dutchman.
With a new aerodynamic package on his car, Romain Grosjean took the sixth place for Haas, while his teammate, who could not enjoy the same aerodynamic package, finished eight. The two drivers of the American team were separated by Red Bull’s second driver, Pierre Gasly, who had yet another disappointing session. The French driver ended the session almost a second slower than the time set by Valtteri Bottas.
Carlos Sainz delivered another solid performance for McLaren and finished in ninth place with the top 10 being completed by Daniil Kvyat for Toro Rosso.
Formula 1 is back tomorrow with the third free practice session and the qualifying sessions for the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.
